Bethpage NY Yellow Pages

Bethpage is a hamlet home in Nassau County in Long Island. The first inhabitants of the area were Native Americans from the Secatog, Massapequa, and Matinecock tribes. The first settlers to the area were Quakers with Thomas Powell being the first to purchase land in Huntington from the various tribes. Powell named the land he purchased Bethpage which stood for house of figs due to its location between Jerusalem and Jericho. Powell also purchased land known as the Rim of the Woods from the Indians which is where Bethpage stands today. The land he owned was given to his children as well as 1/3 of the land given to an apprentice of his by the name of Whitson. The Bethpage Union Free School District provides 3 elementary schools including Charles Campagne, Kramer Lane, and Central Boulevard; 1 middle school John F. Kennedy Middle School; and 1 high school Bethpage High School. The most popular attraction is the Bethpage State Park known for its 5 world class golf courses. Along with golf the park offers sledding, hiking, biking, skiing and much more for the active family.
